Start with all of the wonderful things found right outside your back door. Pinecones, branches, berries and acorns can be used in a variety of ways. Fill a bowl with pinecones au natural or dress up your display with a sprinkling of kosher salt (snow) or glitter. Paint cones silver or gold (red, green etc.) and use them to embellish fresh cut boughs or store-bought wreaths. Decorate with nature inspired items from the craft store like bird feathers to add a touch of elegance to your decor.
If you want to stretch your tree decorations or you’re in the mood to tackle a different theme this year, consider adding a few feathers, birds and grapevine (again from the craft store) to create a winter themed tree that will see you through December and well into January. Rummage through your drawers and add some sparkle with costume jewelry pins and necklaces.
Make it real simple (and inexpensive) and shop for your holiday meal and decoration at the grocery store. Cranberries, popcorn and nuts are all you’ll need to whip up a stylish – not to mention delicious – scene.
This holiday season, think outside the box and save your pennies!
